According to the Merriam Webster’s dictionary, dream (noun) is 1. A series of thoughts, images, or emotions occurring during sleep, or 2. a : A strongly desired goal or purpose. Everyone says that dreaming is something anyone and everyone can do and can have. It is something free; limitless and forever unending. A person can dream and wish for something or anything that the heart and the mind desires. But dreaming is something different from achieving. Dreaming is the act of believing that one can achieve the goal that they desire.

Dreaming is wishing, it is a flicker of hope, a spark of desire, a driving force that pushes a person forward –towards the end of their goal.

A year ago, I dreamt of something precious. I saw myself in the perspective of someone else’ eyes (maybe mine years from now) walking in front of a two –storey house, towards the door. Opening the light brown wooden door, I was met with the sight of a short hallway with white walls and a cabinet just beside the door. I opened the cabinet to see that it was in fact a shoe cabinet for the owner of the house. Going straight on the corridor, there were two doorways opposite each other; one from the left and another from the right. Entering the left one, I found myself in the living room of the house. The majority of the walls were replaced by clear glass that shows the view of the garden and the large gates from outside. In the middle of the room, there were two long black leather sofas facing each other and a couple of bean bags scattered around the white coffee table, and a large flat screen tv with a complete sound system sat in front of the sofas. Looking around, I noticed that the remaining walls were decorated with picture frames of the family living here while some medals and trophies were scattered around. A small book frame or divider was perched on one part of the room, separating the area into two. Going around the divider, it led me to a small office. At that moment I suddenly realized, it was the house I wanted, that at that moment, I was finally seeing my dream house right in front of me. I went back into the corridor and inside the doorway on the right.

The second corridor led me to a medium sized kitchen that looked modern yet classy with its white walls and white counter tops with cabinets and shelves perched on top. The room was divided by a bar counter with a few stools around it. Looking over the bar counter, a small dining table for six was sitting in the middle with chairs around it and a stairway leading to the second floor was on the left corner of the room. Looking up, a chandelier was hanging by, illuminating the room with its beauty and light. The stairs led me to a small hallway that overlooked the kitchen and dining area and prevented me from falling on the first floor with its glass and steel handles. The hallway contained four doors each quite far from each other. The third one led me to my dream bed room complete with its own walk –in –closet and bathroom that contained a shower stall, a sink, a mirror, and a bathtub. The first room served as my grandmother’s room, the second my mother’s, and the fourth and last one my sister’s.

Seeing my own dream house in front of my own eyes deeply delighted and moved me. It was like what I was seeing was really true and real at that moment. Then I woke up.

After that day, I never forgot the feeling of seeing the house, of having to touch the things it had, of walking around it while it was fully furnished and seemingly true. I never forgot what every corner or every object looked like, and I don’t plan to. Having that dream made me realize a lot of things. One, that it was really fulfilling to finally achieve something that you deeply wanted with your own perseverance and money. Second, achieving something you’ve always dreamt of and having it on your name is maybe the best feeling in the world. And three, that you’ll only achieve anything if you don’t lose sight and work hard on studying and working. I was again reminded that if I wanted to have everything I wanted, I had to sacrifice so many things; first my time –if I wanted to succeed in my studies, I should not waste my time partying or doing anything less than worthy of my time. Second, money is not something that should be taken lightly or wasted abruptly. Earning money is hard and difficult and should be spent wisely or inserted on my bank account or coin bank instead of useless desires.

In the end, I know that every little sacrifice and blood, sweat, or tears will be worth it if I only continue to work hard and not lose sight of the things I wanted to achieve. And I know that if I continue to work hard, if I continue to look forward and stray away from the distractions, I’ll reach my dreams.

And I would definitely reach it. I’ll have it with my own hands and reach my own Utopia.
